New Ad Highlights King Sued For Paying Women Less Than Men; Belittled Women As Being Of “Average Capabilities”
Albuquerque, NM – The Martinez for Governor Campaign responded today to Gary King’s ridiculously false ad that tried to attack the nation’s first elected female Hispanic governor on equal pay, while shamelessly ignoring the fact that King was sued over paying women in the Attorney General’s Office less than their male colleagues.
“Gary King foolishly choosing to raise the issue of equal pay for women demonstrates that he is as inept at running for governor as he is serving as attorney general,” said campaign spokesman Chris Sanchez. “It insults the intelligence of New Mexicans that King is trying to run a Washington, D.C., cookie-cutter attack campaign on issues like equal pay when King’s own record is so bad on the subject.”
King was sued for gender discrimination and defended the lawsuit by belittling the three women behind the charges, saying that the women were envious and only of “average capabilities.” King settled the lawsuit and the women received payments as part of the settlement.
King’s actions stand in stark contrast to Governor Martinez, who was even praised by the left-leaning American Civil Liberty Union (ACLU) for signing the Equal Pay for Women Act and fighting to narrow the gender wage gap.
