Hundreds of new manufacturing jobs are coming to the metro area.
An Albuquerque company made that announcement Wednesday morning while breaking ground on a new building in Los Lunas.
Accurate Manufacturing announced they’ll build a new facility here in the Los Morros Business park near I-25.
They say eventually it will be home to those 250 new jobs and most of the company’s employees who are currently working in Albuquerque.
The company is owned by a New Mexico family and started in Albuquerque.
They say the new building in Los Lunas will be their hub in an addition to some Albuquerque operations.
Two of their three Albuquerque buildings will close and move to Los Lunas.
Accurate makes machine parts and tools, but also does plastic manufacturing making things like cups, straws and disposable silverware.
The company says the jobs will pay between $18 and $30 an hour.
State Economic Development officials say Accurate had a choice about where to expand and had narrowed it down to Los Lunas and Amarillo, Texas. Eventually they landed on Los Lunas, though.
“Accurate Machine has been established for more than 50 years and we feel by moving to Los Lunas, we’re able to expand out business and provide well-paying jobs for the community and continue to produce products made – proudly made – in the USA,” said Greg Pluemer, co-owner of Accurate Machines.
The state gave Accurate a $400,000 grant to help design the building. The company is hoping to open up shop by May.
Owners says they will give New Mexicans top priority when it starts hiring in the next few months.
