Governor Launches Third English-Language Campaign Commercial, “Priorities”
Albuquerque, NM — Governor Susana Martinez today launched her third English-language television commercial for her re-election campaign titled, “Priorities.”
The ad highlights how Governor Martinez kept her promise to sell the state jet and focus on making education a top priority.
In addition to ridding the state of the ultimate symbol of waste and excess, selling the jet also saves the state roughly $250,000 in average annual maintenance costs, without even calculating yearly fuel costs. GovernorMartinez points out that’s a similar amount to what New Mexico now spends providing every first grader in the state with a reading book of their very own. Martinez stresses in the commercial the importance of parental involvement, which is encouraged by providing children with their own reading books.
“While Democrats seeking the governorship are running divisive campaigns that descend into name calling and personal attacks, Governor Martinez continues to run an issue-oriented campaign that highlights her efforts to move New Mexico forward on critical issues, like education reform,” campaign spokesman Chris Sanchez said. “Governor Martinez has made education reform a top priority, while the primary concern of our opponents is returning to the failed policies of Bill Richardson by any means necessary.”
Sanchez pointed out that the winner of the Democratic Party’s pre-primary convention, state Senator Howie Morales, voted against providing summer reading books in 2012 (HB 2, 2012; Fl/a).
Under Governor Martinez, education spending is at an all-time high, pre-K spending has more than doubled, and every New Mexico teacher received a pay raise last year with starting teachers receiving a pay hike of nearly seven percent.
The commercial will be running statewide on broadcast and cable.
