Governor Martinez Fights For Small Business Levels The Playing Field

Albuquerque, NM – Mike Tellez, a small business owner in Las Cruces, released the following statement today in support of Governor Susana Martinez’s efforts to diversify the economy and help small businesses grow:

“Governor Martinez has fought for small businesses like mine by cutting taxes and leveling the playing field with states like Texas. There’s still much work to be done, but her leadership is moving our state forward. That’s why it’s so important that we reject Gary King in November, because he wants to undo the progress we’ve made and take us backward. He has raised taxes before, and there’s no doubt that he would do it again. We can’t take the risk.”

Governor Martinez is working hard to grow and diversify New Mexico’s economy. For a century, the state has relied heavily on federal spending. That made things even harder when Washington politicians engage in partisan gridlock and slash the federal budget, which dries up funding for the state. By cutting taxes and enacting policies to protect small businesses, Governor Martinez is fighting to make New Mexico less dependent on federal programs.

Governor Martinez has cut taxes 24 times and killed burdensome regulations that hurt small businesses. In a bipartisan manner, she worked with Democrats and Republicans to pass historic tax reform that cut the business tax rate by 22 percent. As a result, manufacturing is on the rise. Ernst & Young recently rated New Mexico’s tax reforms number one in the region. And exports to Mexico are at an all-time high.

In contrast, Gary King voted to raise taxes on the poor, our seniors and middle-class families. He will push for policies that make New Mexico even more reliant on federal spending and Washington politicians. King’s economic platform consists of taking New Mexico backward, while Governor Susana Martinez is moving the state forward.
